History
Into Your Hands’
relationship
with the Makondo community started in 1999 when the children’s
education department at Christ the King (CTK) Catholic Church in
Evergreen, Colorado, kicked-off a fundraising project for St.
Denis Senior Secondary School in Uganda.
Maria Camp, the Director of Religious Education at the time, had
spent five years in Uganda as a teenager from 1974-1979.
In 1999, the CTK children raised over $3,000 for St.
Denis. This money was used to finish the
examination hall, making it possible for St. Denis to become the
first nationally accredited secondary school in the Makondo
area. Other improvements funded by Christ the King prior to the
formation of Into Your Hands include the construction of
a science lab and a library at St. Denis, installation of water
collection tanks, and provision of teacher salaries, textbooks,
desks, and school supplies.
Into Your Hands incorporated on
March 6, 2007. Since 2007, Into Your Hands has
completed the construction of the school library, purchased bunk
beds and mosquito nets for the girls’ dormitory, equipped the
computer lab with 10 computers and internet service, started the
Send a Piglet Home Program which provided 30 piglets to trained
orphaned and vulnerable students, installed water tanks,
and provided over 200 scholarships to qualified students. Into
Your Hands has 501(c)3 status under section 170 (b) (1) (A) (vi)
of the Internal Revenue Code and is registered as a charitable
organization, #20-8595073.
Into Your Hands is registered in Uganda with the Uganda National Board of Non-Governmental Organizations as a Foreign NGO, registration # S. 5914/7986.
